Yasuní Yaku Kausay (3 days)

Yaku-Kausay7 Yaku-Kausay6First day: The Yasuní Kichwa Ecolodge is located on the banks of the Napo River, the largest Ecuadorian tributary of the Amazon, and lies within the Yasuní National Park. The journey will begin from the town of Coca on motorized canoes, which will travel two hours downriver –refreshments provided! You will see birds such as herons, kingfishers, terns and other Amazonian shorebirds as well as beautiful riverside landscapes. Upon arriving at the Yasuni Kichwa Ecolodge, visitors will be welcomed with a traditional drink and taken to their cabins. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a short walk down to the Napo riverbank to enjoy a beautiful sunset on the beach. Afterwards, we will return for dinner and relaxation.

Second day: We will have breakfast and depart by boat to visit an amazing parrot clay lick that will bring you face to face with some 11 species of parrots (including parakeets and macaws), depending on season and weather conditions. We will end this morning with a visit to the “Kuri Muyu” Interpretation Center run by the women of the community. Here you will have the chance to get to know the Kichwa culture, as well as their crafts and traditions. We will return for lunch and rest at the lodge. In the afternoon, we will walk towards the Añangu stream to visit wetlands, upland forest and seasonally-flooded forest, and board a canoe to head downriver to see alligators and listen to the sounds of nature at its purest. We will return to the hotel by motorized canoe and have a traditional dinner.

Third day: (Optional) We will get up at 4:30 am to experience one of the ancient customs of the Kichwa culture: making wayusa to energize the body and listening to the kichwa songs while peacefully meditating. Finally, we will return for breakfast before taking a motorized canoe back to Coca.
