Paddling Adventure (4-day trip)

annaconda canoehighes0689First day: You will be picked up at the Hotel Maito Landia in Lago Agrio at 9 am or at the airport in Lago Agrio at 10 am. From there we have a two hour bus ride to the Cuyabeno Bridge. After lunch we will start our adventure tour canoeing down the Cuyabeno river. You will get your first chance to see the amazing wildlife of Cuyabeno, and, if you’re lucky, see monkeys, birds, snakes (anacondas), sloths and whatever else the jungle might bring. After our first 3 hour paddling trip we will reach camp in the afternoon. After some time to relax and eat dinner we will head out for an exciting night walk to search for huge insects like tarantulas, lobster grasshoppers, frogs and reptiles.

Second day: After breakfast we will continue paddling down the Cuyabeno river and will reach the Laguna Grande. You will see the river water change from white to black in the Laguna Grande, which serves as a mirror, giving Cuyabeno its magic.  Here, you have a great chance of seeing the pink river dolphins. Around 1 pm we will reach the Caiman Ecolodge. After lunch you have a chance to relax in the hammock and to climb up the 7-floor birdwatching tower to have a great view over the jungle. In the afternoon we will go for a jungle hike, swim and watch the beautiful sunset in the Laguna Grande. We will get back to the lodge in the dark, looking for caimans. Finally, you can have dinner and relax with a cold beer in the hammock, if you want.

Third day: After breakfast in the Caiman Lodge we paddle down the Cuyabeno river to the Puerto Bolivar Siona community. We will have lunch in the community and then we will meet one of the indigenous women, who will teach us how to make traditional casave bread. Afterwards we have a walk through the community and jungle with a native Siona. We will reach camp, and after dinner we will meet one of the last 5 Siona shamans. He will tell us about their traditions and sing an old chant for us.

Fourth day: On the last day of your jungle trip, we will get up early (6 am) to go birdwatching and to see the jungle sunrise. After breakfast a motorized canoe will pick us up and bring us back to the Cuyabeno bridge, where you will get a box lunch. The lodge transport will bring you back to Lago Agrio around 2 pm and can drop you off directly at the bus terminal, at the airport or in the center of Lago Agrio.
