We are rock climbing on the volcanic hill Cojitambo only 30 minutes away from Cuenca in the county Azogues. Due to its ideal location in the Andes, the hill was used by the Cañari as a ceremonial center and later as a strategic rest site for military purposes. Today it is considered Ecuador’s most important rock climbing spot thanks to its archaeological relics and varied routes. There are more than 100 different climbing routes for beginners and advanced climbers. We explore the western side of the Cojitambo that provides different channels (10) for beginners who can scale walls from 30–60 meters, with a range of difficulty from 5.5 to 5.10 b (US Scale).
