Camping in Morona Santiago (5 days)

Camping in Morona Santiago (5 days)

p1020291 camping tour/Rainforest/EcuadorFirst day: We will meet at 9 am at the Arutam Ecotours office in Cuenca and start our journey to Morona Santiago soon after. Our arrival in Limón is scheduled around noon, where we will have a good lunch and explore the small town for a while. You will then need to put on “wet gear” (rubber boots and, in case of wet weather, a rain poncho), so that we can enjoy a beautiful hike in the rainforest along a stream with an amazing waterfall. At the end of the day we put our tent up and have a great dinner out in the nature.

Second day: After breakfast, we will depart to a site with ancient petroglyphs and produce fresh sugarcane juice ourselves. After this morning activity, we will go to a nearby river, which will be our camping site. We have lunch at the riverside and relax for a while. In the afternoon you can take a refreshing swim in the river and have fun going tubing. In the evening we make a nice campfire and enjoy a good BBQ.

Third day: Time to visit a hot spring! We will depart after breakfast and reach the hot spring after a short car ride and foot journey – amazing views included! After pitching our tents, we will have lunch. In the afternoon, we visit a high waterfall and relax in the hot spring. Back at our campsite, a local dinner is served and the day finished with a campfire.

Fourth day: After a hearty breakfast, we will take our tents down and walk back to the car. Then we will drive to a small Shuar community in the middle of the rainforest. A traditional meal will be prepared by the Shuars and afterwards you can relax for a while. In the afternoon you will walk an enchanted rainforest trail to reach a waterfall that the Shuar still use for their mysterious rituals. This jungle trek will be followed by a typical dinner in the Shuar village.

Fifth and last day: After breakfast we say good-bye to our hosts and we will go for our last hike in the rainforest, that will take us two hours along a beautiful river with small cascades. Back in Limón we will be serve a delicious lunch and you can enjoy the small town. We return to Cuenca in the late afternoon.

Here is an opinion of one of our guests you also can find on TripAdvisor:

I went on a 5 day tour with Arutam Ecotours and it had all you can wish for: amazing nature, adventures in the jungle on hidden trails, birdwatching, relaxing at a river side, hot springs, camping, barbecues, cultural experiences and a guide who took care of everyone’s needs and led us safely through the jungle and is enthusiastic about his work and beautiful Morona Santiago. I would definitely book a tour again with them and can highly recommend this agency!
